One of the Philadelphia area’s most-loved providers of hoagies and coffee, Wawa, is also one of the most largest private companies in the nation.

Forbes Magazine’s annual list of the largest private companies in the country was released earlier this month, with Wawa coming in at a very respectable #40.

The gas station and convenience store chain has an estimated revenue of $9.02 billion annually, and has 19,100 employees, according to Forbes.

This year’s ranking represents no change for Wawa in Forbes’ rankings from last year.

In 2011, the first year Wawa appeared on the list, it ranked at #47.

Wawa’s headquarters are in Chester Heights, in Delaware County.

Private companies are not publicly traded in the stock market between shareholders.
