In the wake ofKathleen Kane’s conviction and resignation from her position as Pennsylvania attorney general, herformer top deputy is poised to take over. A confirmation vote scheduled for Tuesday will appoint Bruce Beemer, who left his position under Kane to become an inspector general underGov. Tom Wolf.
Beemer will take over the five remaining months of Kane’s term until a successor elected by voters is sworn in on Jan. 17, the Associated Press reported.
The longtime prosecutor first joined the attorney general’s office under Gov. Tom Corbett, but has notoriously clashed with Kane in the last several months, even testifying against her after she leaked information to the PhiladelphiaDaily News, PennLive has reported. But Beemer seems to have support from Harrisburg.
“You cannot expect a person in four months to undo the havoc that has wreaked over three years in that office, but if anybody can start to do it, Bruce can,” former Attorney General Linda Kelly told PennLive last week. Victim advocate Jennifer Storm echoed praise of Beemer, tweeting that he’s the “best possible choice to bring some stability, ethics [and] leadership” to the office.
