A former estates attorney was charged today with bilking clients of hundreds of thousands of dollars, federal prosecutors have announced.

Gomer “Tom” Williams III, 54, a former attorney who was disbarred in 2012 for misconduct, was charged today with allegedly stealing $503,361 from his clients, at one point allegedly stealing money to pay his own mortgage.

Williams is charged with one count of wire fraud and, if convicted, could face three years in prison and fines.

Williams, formerly an attorney with Spector Gadon & Rosen, allegedly defrauded four of his trust and estate clients by diverting funds from their accounts to his personal accounts and overbilling the clients for work that did not occur.

Williams, as attorney, was the trustee of his clients’ trusts, and the administrator or executor his clients estates.

As such, he controlled the clients funds and checking accounts and was able to transfer funds from their accounts to his own or to pay his personal expenses, prosecutors said.

The alleged illegal activities occurred between 2007 to 2012.

The misconduct for which Williams was disbarred was not listed in public court documents.
