Fox Chase fire leaves two people in critical condition

Early Tuesday morning, there was a house fire in the Fox Chase area of Philadelphia.

ABC reported that four people have been injured.

ABC reports that the fire occurred at 5:30 a.m. within the 7300 block of Ryers Avenue.

Officials told outlets that when they arrived on the scene, there were flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building.

Assistant Fire Chief Harry Bannon told ABC that when officers arrived on the scene, a man and a woman were outside of the home. NBC reported that the man was 26 years old and the woman was 16 years old. Bannon told outlets that one of them jumped from the second-floor window to escape the blaze. The other exited from the first floor of the building.

Both of them were taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital by police. Both are in stable condition.

It was reported that the firefighters entered the home and were met with heavy flames on the first floor, and they rescued two more people inside the home. They rescued an 82-year-old woman and an 21-year-old man; both were unconscious.

The two unconscious victims were also taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. After they arrived, they were airlifted to Jefferson University Hospital. Both are listed in critical condition.

The fire department tweeted that “PFD members rescued, treated, and transported two people from an all-hands fire today on Ryers Avenue in Burholme. @PhillyPolice transported two other people. The fire was placed under control at 6:22 a.m., and the cause is under investigation.”

Outlets on the scene say that the Fire Marshal is on location investigating.
