Two men were arrested and a pair of patrol vehicles were damaged Saturday night when police shut down an unsanctioned car meet-up in Frankford, the PPD said.
Officers were called at around 9:45 p.m. to the corner of Torresdale and Adams avenues, where they saw a large crowd and multiple drivers doing burnouts, according to authorities.
As they were dispersing the group, a 19-year-old man behind the wheel of a fleeing car ran into a 15th District cruiser, police said. No one was injured, and officers arrested the driver.
The PPD has not identified him but said he is expected to be charged with assaulting police, reckless driving and related crimes. Four passengers of the car – all 17-year-old boys – received citations.
Officers also apprehended a 33-year-old man who was allegedly drag racing in the area with his Dodge Charger, authorities said. Charges are pending for reckless driving and conspiracy, the PPD said, and his name has not been released.
Someone also threw a tequila bottle at a 26th District cruiser, cracking the windshield, according to police.
The incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information about the car meet can call or text the PPD’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
