We interrupt this first day of football to bring you some futbol news. Pretty big news actually.
Freddy Adu is headed back to Major League Soccer, as a member of our hometown Union. The move was first reported by Fox Soccer. The move will re-unite Adu with Peter Nowak, who managed him during his early years in the MLS when he played for D.C. United. The 22-year-old is expected to fill the scoring void left when leading-scorer Carlos Ruiz transferred to Veracruz.
The Union have yet to confirm the Adu signing, but they sent out a press release around 3:20 p.m. Thursday announcing a press conference set for Friday at noon. The release says: “Philadelphia Union to Introduce New Player.”
So, you fill in the blanks. Welcome to Philly, Freddy!
