More Philadelphians will soon have weekend access to their neighborhood libraries. The Free Library of Philadelphia is expanding its six-day service by adding Saturday hours at seven additional branches this fall — bringing the total number of libraries open on Saturdays to 39 by Oct. 18.
“Libraries are vital community hubs,” said Kelly Richards, President and Director of the The Free Library of Philadelphia. “By expanding our hours, we’re ensuring that more people can access the information, technology, and services they need, when they need them.”
The expansion is part of the library system’s broader effort to increase accessibility and flexibility for residents — particularly families, students, job seekers, and lifelong learners.
Extended Saturday hours have been implemented at Frankford Library, Lawncrest Library, Roxborough Library, Bustleton Library, Haddington Library, and Cecil B. Moore Library. Starting Saturday, Oct. 18, Chestnut Hill Library will also extend Saturday hours.
The Free Library aims to have all 54 branches open six days a week by the end of 2025.
