Harvest Weekend at Dilworth Park

Fall has fallen and with it comes plenty of seasonal favorites—including Harvest Weekend at Dilworth Park. Starting Friday, Oct. 8, Philadelphians can join in on a pumpkin carving demonstration, check out scarecrow stilt-walkers, and see the Temple University Spirit Squad. The rest of the weekend (the event runs until Sunday) will also feature live music, family pumpkin painting, a Stein-Hoisting Contest presented by Sam Adam’s, an Alloyius Mcilwaine live painting demonstration hosted by Maker’s Mark and much, much more.

Cocktails at the Castle 

The Mercer Museum’s annual fall fundraiser Cocktails at the Castle is back this weekend, but there’s a new twist that guests can look out for this year. Starting off the event, guests will join in on the “Pine Street Stroll” cocktail hour which features a selection of appetizers from Jeffrey A. Miller Catering and the musical sounds of Bronwyn Bird and Justin Nawn on guitar and nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument. As the release states, after cocktail hour, local restaurant and catering partners will serve their specialties to the attendees. This year’s partners include Chambers 19 Bistro & Bar, Empanada Mama, Edible Arrangements of Doylestown, The Lucky Cupcake Company, Le Macaron French Pastries of Doylestown, McCaffrey’s Food Markets, Nothing Bundt Cake – Warrington, Pierre’s Chocolates, and Sweet Victory Gluten & Dairy Free Treats and more. Event attendees will also enjoy sampling a curated list of craft cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages while listening to the music of the David Gustafson Band. The event kicks off this Saturday, Oct. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. and tickets ($150 for general admission and $125 for Bucks County Historical Society members) are available online.

Beehive The ’60s Musical at The Walnut Street Theatre 

This upbeat, electric musical is kicking off the fall season at The Walnut Street Theatre. This 60s-era centric showcase focuses on the female voices of the time including Diana Ross, Janis Joplin, Carole King, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner. Audiences will be able to recognize the hits that the performers bust out as well with over two dozen songs on the docket ranging from “It’s My Party,” “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?,” “Where the Boys Are,” and “You Don’t Own Me” as some of the most notable tunes. As the website states, the show takes you on a song-filled journey told from the perspective of six women coming of age during this unforgettable time, taking audiences from their first Beehive Dance through a decade of change. Tickets for the show, which runs now through Oct. 31, are available online.

Indigenous Peoples Weekend at the MoAR

According to a release, this weekend Philadelphians can explore Native American history and culture at the Museum of the American Revolution during the Museum’s annual Indigenous Peoples Weekend celebration from Oct. 9-11. The weekend celebration will include traditional Native American dance performances, hands-on demonstrations, and other family-friendly activities. On Saturday at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and Sunday at 11 a.m., a contingent of indigenous dancers sponsored by the Oneida Indian Nation will also perform traditional Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) social dances on the museum’s outdoor plaza. Performances are free and open to the public. All other Indigenous Peoples Weekend activities are included with regular museum admission.
