302 Beer Fest

The 5th annual 302 Beer Drinkers’ Choice Awards is officially back for 2022 and will be taking place this Sunday, April 3. The event, hosted by Crooked Hammock Brewery, will be held at their flagship Lewes brewpub under a thatched roof alongside the beach.

As a release states, guests who head to 302 will be treated to samples from 30+ local Delaware-only breweries, carrying on a years-long tradition of being the first and only festival to feature every brewery in the First State. Brewers and brewery representatives will march into the Crooked Hammock taproom to start the festivities in a ballyhooed “Parade of Breweries,” and participants will democratically pick their favorite selections.

Costumes are strongly encouraged, and awards will be doled out in the following categories: Fan Favorite Beer, Most Unique Beer, Best Brewery Costume, Best Drinkers Costume and Best Edible Necklace. The 21+ event will also have food and snacks available for purchase, and tickets cost $39 online and $45 at the door.

Cozette Pizza Grand Opening 

Back in 2020, this pizzeria started out as a ghost kitchen concept operating out of the South Street Spread Bagelry. The concept came from Spread’s Nicholas Maldonado, and was founded to feed frontline workers in hospitals across the city during COVID-19. And in 2022, they are continuing to pay it forward.

This Friday, Cozette’s new location in partnership with Workhorse Brewing will officially open at 4 p.m., and will stay open every Thursday-Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. To kick off their grand opening, Cozette will be donating 50% of their sales to Friends of Schuylkill River Park for their March Madness fundraiser to purchase new equipment and replace the rims and backboards of the basketball hoops along the river trail. While at the opening, Philadelphians can try their Neapolitan-style pizzas, and rest assured, the Cozette team says that they have collaborated with some of the best bakers in Philadelphia in order to perfect the best dough recipe compatible with their wood-fired, 600-degree ovens.

As a release states, Cozette Pizza also operates out of Spread Bagelry’s South Street University City locations. The South Street location offers pizza by the slice with customizable toppings, while the University City location features a bar on-premise and outdoor dining. All three locations offer delivery via Grubhub, Doordash, and Caviar, or customers can purchase in-store or for pick up.

Burlesque Drag Show

Franky Bradley’s is a hub for all things burlesque in the City of Brotherly Love. And this Thursday, March 31, Wepa Burlesque will be putting on a Latine burlesque, dance, and drag show at the Center City hotspot. Presented by Isa Ardiente, the show will feature Adrianna Poindexter, Fulano De Tal, Kita St. Cyr, Rita Brujeria, and will be kittened by Midnight Ruby.

Tickets run for $15, doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m.

Fabric Workshop and Museum 

There are two reasons to head to the Fabric Workshop and Museum if you’re looking for fun things to do in Philly this weekend. First up, on Friday, April 1, Philadelphians can check out Forms of Strangeness, which poses the question: How can representations of strangeness in art help us to grapple with the strangeness in ourselves and in our world?

According to a release, this First Friday workshop will offer participants a guided exhibition tour of Ahmed Alsoudani’s “uncanny, sometimes gruesome sculptures” followed by a hands-on printing experience. Participants will create a two-layered print that explores form and shadow with monoprinting techniques and carbon black ink made from vine charcoal. Tickets run for $20 GA, and $15 for FWM members.

Next up, on Sunday, April 3, visitors can then explore Ahmed Alsoudani’s imaginative sculptures titled ‘Wonderworms.’ This exhibition is great for kids ages 5-12, and while there, kiddos can also create their own soft, wiggly, worms using nylon stocking material and recycled fiber scraps.

‘Waitress’

Just in time for Women’s History Month, ‘Waitress’ is on stage at the Academy of Music on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. The show, which has an all-female creative team, features music and lyrics from singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, aka the mind behind ‘Love Song’ and ‘King of Anything’— just to name a few of her early 2000’s smash hits.

‘Waitress’ follows Jenna Hunterson, a baker and waitress in an abusive relationship with her husband, Earl. After deciding to follow her dreams and enter into a baking contest in a nearby county, Jenna makes major changes in her life—and also gets involved in an unexpected romance. Ultimately though, what she really finds is herself again.

‘Waitress‘ is part of the Kimmel Cultural Campus’ Broadway Series, and will be at the Academy of Music on the Kimmel Cultural Campus now through April 3.
