Movie Under the Stars & Stripes at the Betsy Ross House
The First Friday Movie Nights Under the Stars & Stripes will kick off another evening of cinema and fun this Friday, Aug. 6, at 8:45 p.m. The event begins when the sun goes down and visitors can meet in the courtyard at dusk. While there, movie-goers can watch a film on the big screen (this week’s showing is ‘Alligator People’) while also enjoying their own snacks and beverages, which the House encourages attendees to bring.
If you come a bit earlier as well, you’re in for a treat—those who head to the Betsy Ross House will also be able to enjoy an after-hours tour of the museum. Admission for this event, which happens annually on the First Friday of every month, is $7.

International Beer Day/ Mead Me At The Den
This weekend, Philadelphians are invited out to raise a glass in support of International Beer Day on Aug. 6 with South Philly hotspot Devil’s Den. According to a release, Devil’s Den offers one of the city’s largest curated craft beer selections to celebrate the hoppy holiday – from Hazy IPAs to Belgian Stouts to German Wheat Beers. The ever-evolving rotating drafts span from a few different options: SingleCut Beersmiths, SweetWater Brewing Co., Brewery Ommegang, Left Hand Brewing Company and more. While there this Friday, imbibers may enjoy hard-to-find craft beer including a Belgian gold ale La Chouffe (8% ABV) from Brasserie d’Achouffe. Brews are available for sipping alongside their pub fare at the expansive outdoor streetery and indoor dining as well as to-go in the form of six-packs and growlers.
But before you head there on Friday, libation lovers can celebrate a day early. On Thursday, Aug. 5, Devil’s Den is celebrating National Mead Day (Aug. 7) by partnering with Upper Reach Meadery, Pennsylvania’s newest meadery, creating modern mead with folk flair, for Mead Me at the Den, an evening of flight and food pairings, craft cocktails, mead slushies and more from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
As the release states, the celebratory event will boast four proper pours of Upper Reach traditional high-ABV meads, an alcoholic beverage composed of honey, water, and yeast that is often mixed with different fruit and spices to create a variety of flavors. Alongside the stronger libations is a selection of Weekend Water, an all-new organic premium honey spritzer from Upper Reach Meadery. Devil’s Den’s kitchen staff will also be whipping up four small plates to pair with the mead flights. Mead Me at the Den will take place in Devil’s Den’s expansive dining room, and costs $30 per ticket.
