Looking for some fun and unique things to do in Philly this weekend? We’ve got you covered.
The Under the El Bazaar
This weekend continues a new series for Fishtown. Dubbed “The Under the El Bazaar,” this fresh experience will take over North Front Street with plenty of food, fun and one-of-a-kind finds. The second date is set for this Saturday, July 26, (noon to 7 p.m.) and the open-air celebration will be filled with pop-up shopping, street performers, live music, expanded outdoor dining, and more.
Family-friendly activities span face painting, a balloon artist, and a caricature artist, plus, DJs, local bands and acoustic performers will be sprinkled throughout the day. Vendors will be lined with creative goods, plus, local favorites like LMNO (1749 N. Front Street), Evil Genius Beer Company (1727 N. Front Street), Percy Street Barbecue (1700 N. Front Street), and The International Bar (1624 N Front Street) will be offering food and drink specials, sidewalk seating, and special in-house offerings throughout the occasion as well.
Family Field Day
This weekend in East Fairmount Park, a jam-packed Family Field Day will be in full swing at Mander Recreation Center. The free-to-attend affair is set for July 26 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and will feature all-ages youth sports (think soccer, baseball, football, and basketball), plus, music, prizes, free face-painting, craft activities with Smith Memorial’s Pop-up Playhouse, pay-as-you-go food trucks and more. Advance registration (available online) is recommended for receiving pre-event details.
This is the Conservancy’s first-ever Family Field Day in East Fairmount Park and the only one set for the summer.

Brunch with Ben
If anyone ever wondered if Benjamin Franklin was a big brunch guy, Red Owl Tavern’s latest offering answers that question. This Sunday, July 27, from noon to 1:30 p.m. locals will be able to indulge in different brunch specialties and cocktails at the Old City locale, while Benjamin Franklin (portrayed by one of the nation’s leading historical interpreters, Brian Patrick Mulligan) will peruse around the two-story venue to chat with guests, cite historical facts, and take different photo ops.
Red Owl Tavern’s Chef Charles Vogt oversees the brunch menu, which includes picks like Eggs Benny, with pork roll ($21) or smoked salmon ($24), “1776 Fries” (aka Old City’s Take on Disco Fries, $16) with smoked brisket, Grafton cheddar mornay, cowboy candy, and chipotle BBQ, plus, Steak + Egg Chilaquiles ($25) crafted with carne asada, a sunny side egg, ranchero sauce, cotija, and crema.

Language N Motion: Poetic Movement Expressions
Language N’ Motion comes from a partnership with LumazenYoga and ADSS (All Different Shapes + Sizes). The event set for this Sunday, July 27, is meant to mix yoga, poetic reflection, and Experiential Language Architecture (ELA) to explore “how movement can carry meaning, and how language lives in the body.”
How does the event work? Participants will flow through a guided movement practice under the trees to explore a new kind of expression while on their yoga mats. This event follows the recent coverage of ADSS’s immersive poetry installation, the ‘Versescape’, in ‘The Artblog.’ The event will be in full swing in Clark Park by the circle from 1 to 3 p.m. Tickets run for $10 for early birds and $15 for general admission.

Other treats will be provided by Sweetish Candy, Pop’s Water Ice, and Jeffrey A. Miller Hospitality Group, in addition to Swedish buffet fare.
