Looking for some fun and unique things to do in Philly this weekend? We’ve got you covered.
South Street Oktoberfest
The largest celebration of Oktoberfest in Philadelphia is set for Saturday, Sept. 27. Now in its 17th year, the annual event presented by Brauhaus Schmitz will be in full swing from noon to 8 p.m. on the 700 block of South Street. Festivities will include nearly a dozen German beers available on draught, a variety of German favorites for food, live Oom-pah music, face painting, German dancers, a Liter Lift competition, games, schnapps and more.
Music will be provided by Die Heimatklänge with dancing by the United German Hungarians. Philadelphians can also look into buying VIP Packages ($125): VIP includes private access to the Brauer Bund, specialty drafts, a liter mug, a Bavarian buffet, seven tokens for beer, five private no-wait bathrooms and additional swag.
Hyatt’s Meet the Makers Series
Hyatt Centric Philadelphia is continuing its ‘Maker Series’ with a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month—and there are some familiar faces behind the latest exhibit.
Philadelphia-based photographer Jaime Alvarez and Chicana painter Marta Sanchez’s new showcase is slated to open at the locale on Thursday, Sept. 25, as part of Hyatt’s continued partnership with InLiquid Art Gallery. The series highlights local artists and creators and has seen creatives like sculptor Peter Cucinelli, painter Marilyn Stubblebine, photographer Stuart Goldenberg and more add their work to the line-up in the past. Alvarez and Sanchez’s showcase specifically will highlight identity, heritage, and the significance of memory and place.
Philadelphians can get up close and personal with the exhibit through the opening reception, taking place Sept. 25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The evening will feature complimentary light bites from the venue’s restaurant (Patchwork) and pay-as-you-go craft cocktails. Alvarez’s and Sanchez’s works will be available for purchase during the event and post-reception, and the exhibit as a whole will be on view until Nov. 10.

Flight Club’s new brunch service
Social darts and smoked salmon flatbreads? That’s what’s on the menu at Flight Club, the city’s first darts-dedicated locale. Philadelphians now have a few more spirited reasons to head to this venue with the addition of weekend brunch (available every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) While there, visitors can order up their Bottomless Flatbreads for $25 per person or Flatbreads + Bubbles for $40 per person, featuring a bottle of prosecco per guest.
Flatbread options span the smoked salmon, garden vegetable and the breakfast flatbread layered with crispy prosciutto, fontina, and a sunny-side-up egg. Drinks-wise Philadelphians can also sip on an Espresso Martini Tower, a Bloody Mary or Maria, an assortment of flavored mimosas and more. Reservations are available via SevenRooms.

The Layaway
The Bearded Ladies Cabaret is back for the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and their latest showcase will take over the Wanamaker Building. The show is described as a vibrant hideaway where art, music, and mischief come together in unexpected harmony. Audiences can expect an eclectic lineup of cabaret experiences spanning “stripped-down acoustic reveries, soaring organ(ic) ecstasies, genderqueer tomfoolery and tailor-made programming crafted just for the Kids Department.”
A performance with family programming will take place on Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. and with adult programming on Sept. 27, at 9 p.m. Tickets ($10+) are available online.
