Looking for some fun, unique and safe ways to spend your Halloween weekend? In the age of social distancing, Metro has you covered. A few Philly establishments have come up with inventive ways to still have fun this weekend while staying healthy.
Franklin Fright
The Franklin Institute is celebrating Halloween this weekend with a two-day trick or treating event. The Institute will be transformed with themed decorations, and those who head to the FI to celebrate can also enjoy indoor trick or treating, check out scary science and creepy crawlers from The Insectarium, hourly eerie eye and heart dissections, and live liquid “scare” shows featuring ghostly smoke-filled bubbles created using liquid nitrogen. All the while, there will be costumed staff there with goodies to give out during the event which takes place Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Chaddsforth Winery Adult Trick or Treating
Chaddsforth Winery will be hosting a trick or treat celebration, but this event is for the adults. According to a release, this year, Chaddsford Winery is bringing back Adult Trick or Treat by highlighting three of their best-selling fall wines, Spiced Apple, Traminette and Harbinger, as a wine kit offering guests the opportunity to pair their wines with seasonal treats, either at home or throughout West Chester. Guests can purchase an Adult Trick or Treat Wine Kit and pick it up Curbside at Chaddsford Winery or Peddler’s Village Tasting Room, and inside the wine kit is a pairing guide the help you choose the best Halloween candies, autumnal treats and spooky snacks to enjoy with Chaddsford Winery wine.

Friday Night Frights at The Bourse
The Bourse will be hosting Friday Night Frights for all Philadelphians to join in on. The event centers around the showing of the wildly popular Halloween movie “Hocus Pocus” which will be shown on a 16-foot projector. The movie will start at 7 p.m., but beforehand and during, guests can also indulge in some themed treats from some of the vendors at the Old City food hall including The Witch’s Cauldron from Scoop DeVille ($5.09/small, $6.02/medium, $7.18/large) featuring black ice cream with oreo; The Hangover Soup from Prescription Chicken ($13 / quart); Sanderson Seltzers (hard seltzers) (3 / $15) and a “Little Children” Sandwich aka the Little Chick, a mini fried chicken sandwich from Freebyrd Chicken. Twilight Tour with the Betsy Ross House
It’s officially spooky season, and that means the city will have some seasonal events taking place centered around some of the creepier but also interesting parts of Philly. According to the release, guests who take the tour with the Betsy Ross House will travel back to Philadelphia in the 1700s and learn about the city’s gruesome history of infection and inoculation. Tour-goers will hear true, macabre tales about bloodletting, smallpox, yellow fever, and other gross experiences while also learning what it was like to live in the ghastly 18th century and discover why Philadelphia was an infectious place to be. Then, to cap off the event, guests will then head into the House for a spooky, shadowy tour. Admission is $10, or guests can truly make a night of it and purchase a “Spooky Twosome” which also includes a round of Mini Golf at Franklin Square Park for $17-$19. The tour will take place Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.

A Revolutionary Halloween Weekend
This weekend, families can head to the Museum of the American Revolution to celebrate the end of the Halloween season. The museum will be featuring spooky stories from the Revolutionary War and learn how early Americans carved turnips—not pumpkins— to ward away evil spirits. Those who head to the MOAR this weekend will also be able to explore the museum’s new special exhibition, “When Women Lost the Vote: A Revolutionary Story, 1776-1807,” and all kids 12 and under who come in costume will get $3 off admission at the front desk.
