Looking for some fun, unique and safe ways to spend your weekend? In the age of social distancing, Metro has you covered. A few Philly establishments have come up with inventive ways to still have fun this weekend while staying healthy.
Emmy Squared Rooftop Yoga
This Saturday, September 12th, Philadelphians can head to the popular Queen Village eatery Emmy Squared to practice some of their best yoga moves on the hotspot’s newly opened rooftop. Emmy Squared partnered up with another local business, Terenga Yoga, to make the event possible and the class will be led by Terenga’s Joanna Da Sylva and Emmy Squared’s co-founder Emily Hyland who also happens to be a longtime yoga teacher and practitioner. After they pose and stretch, participants will also get to stay and social distance while enjoying some combo specials at Emmy Squared boasting a half pizza, salad, and a cocktail included in the price of your ticket. The event ($35) begins at 10:30 am, and guests can RSVP by emailing emily@pizzalovesemily.com and must also bring their own mat.
Sate Kampar Pop-Up
This weekend, Philadelphians will be able to check out a pop-up featuring fare from the popular Malaysian street food eatery at the hands of Ange Branca and the Sate Kampar team. Sate Kampar will be calling Philly’s own urban park food hub, Sunset Social, home this Saturday, as well as setting up shop at Sunset’s sister restaurant, the Walnut Street Cafe the day before. Philadelphians who head to the Cafe on Friday (Sept. 11) will be able to enjoy a $65 three-course prix-fixe featuring classic Malaysian dishes such as Umai (sliced raw fish marinated in lime juice, chilies and ginger mixed with sweet onions and crushed peanut candy), Dagaing Salai (smoked beef rehydrated in a spicy coconut curry) and Kampar Ice Kachang (a bowl filled with jellies, cold pandan noodles, nuts and sweet beans topped with shaved ice and drizzled with coconut nectar, rose syrup and milk.) Then, this Saturday (Sept. 12), those interested can head upstairs to Sunset Social to try more of Sate Kampar’s specialties such as a Ramly Burger (a Malaysian street burger made with a double patty, cheese, sauce, wrapped in a thin omelet and Philly Bread sweet potato bun), Achat (veggies pickled twice in sambal, candlenut oil and peanuts), Curry Chips and a Kaya Toast Ice cream sandwich.

Movie Under the Stars
This week kicks off an event that will allow movie lovers to enjoy a feature film with the backdrop of the night sky. Every Thursday starting Sept. 10, Urban Farmer is inviting Philadelphians to The Logan Hotel Courtyard for a three-course dinner and movie under the stars. The event starts at 6:30 pm, is $75 per person and will include the dinner (from Executive Chef Sonny Ingui boasting braised octopus, steak frites, Skuna Bay salmon, chocolate cake and more), theater-style popcorn and the viewing of a lineup of 80s and 90s classics on an oversized projector. Those interested can also purchase VIP tickets for $100 which will include a bottle of red or white wine or a 6-pack of beer, plus an ultimate movie snack pack. Sly Fox Brewing Company, State Side Vodka and Grace Winery will also be on-site with special beverage offerings at an additional price. Tickets for this Thursday’s showing of ‘Clueless’ can be purchased on Tock and should be bought in advance due to limited capacity. Masks must also be worn.
Abe Fischer Pop-Up
Popular eatery Abe Fischer will be bringing back their deli pop-up this Saturday, September 12th from 11 am to 2 pm, and interested Philadelphians can pre-order ahead of time or stop by this weekend until supplies run out. A few stand-out items being offered include a whitefish and lox platter (with house rye, pickled horseradish beets, house potato chips, black and white cookies and more), a brisket platter (with house rye, pickled horseradish beets, house potato chips, black and white cookies and more) plus a few other add ons and beverages to choose from.

Rittenhouse Fine Arts Show
Typically, the Rittenhouse Fine Arts Show happens in person every year. However, for what would have been it’s 93rd year, the cultural event has been moved to the virtual front, although the core message of the healing power of art will still be exemplified. The virtual fair will now take place on the digital sphere Sept. 10-13 and will feature 101 jury-selected professional artists from all over the U.S. and Canada. Artwork will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend on the RSFAS online gallery, plus the release also states that special artists’ appearances, such as art technique demonstrations, artist interviews, and interactive art sessions will occur virtually throughout the event.
