It was unlikely that Making Time would welcome the 10-year mark with a modest celebration. The party has, after all, a reputation for packing the house with some of the best local DJs, a wide range of bands (from Sebastien Tellier to Girls to Hot Chip) and gigantic ready-for-the-floor crowds on a monthly basis.
No this, it seems, would call for a “Summer of Radness.” The kickoff celebration began last night with a motivational speech by Andrew WK (seriously) and will continue through the weekend with a poster retrospective, dance party and special performance by Liquid Liquid.
Founder Dave Pianka — who you can also catch DJing — originally envisioned the party as a one-time event and has introduced plenty of changes to the lineups and style, but is still on the same essential mission he started 10 years ago. “Making Time is constantly evolving and will continue to evolve over the years, but one thing that has always remained consistent is the artistic vision of the party — to bring the music that I love to the people of Philadelphia and to make them dance,” he says. “And of course, as I always say, freak out like crazy people.”
