Not anymore, Cos. Al Golden has turned the football program of Temple’s most famous alum from a national laughingstock into a 9-2 squad that seems almost certainly headed to .. gasp … a bowl game!
“I’m happy our team is going in the right direction,” said Golden, “but we’re not a program yet, which is the level we want.”
On Friday morning, the Owls put their school record nine-game winning streak on the line at Ohio University. The winner will meet Central Michigan for the MAC title on Dec. 4. For the first time since 1979, there’s a bowl game looming for Temple.
“We don’t catalog shop for players, and we don’t need someone else to bless our kids,” Golden said.
“I believe if you build a class program, you won’t have to go back to losing.’’
At least the Owls should never have to fear Hofstra again.
