Gov. Christie postpones Halloween until Nov. 5…seriously

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who is no stranger to controversy, has postponed Halloween in the Garden State.

Christie has signed an executive order postponing Halloween until Nov. 5, the Associated Press reported. The governor said trick-or-treating is not safe in the wake of damage from Hurricane Sandy, which battered shore towns. Christie said children would face flooding, downed trees and fallen power lines.

A state of emergency is still in effect in New Jersey due to the storm. Many homes in the state are still without power, and search and rescue missions were initiated Tuesday. Christie and President Obama are scheduled to tour some of the hardest-hit areas today.

Christie’s order may be prudent, but is sure to disappoint youngsters. It is unclear whether government officials in any of the other affected states planned to take similar action.
