‘GQ’ names Philly one of the ‘Top 5 Beer Cities in America’

This month’s issue of GQ Magazine ranks Philly on its list of “The Top Five Beer Cities in America.” Coming in just below Los Angeles and Denver, Philadelphia was given the moniker of “America’s Perfect Pub Crawl,” praised for its breadth of bars ideal for everything from day-drinking to nightclubbing.

“Our Founding Fathers bickered over inalienable human rights while tossing back brews in the dark corners of ye olde Philly taverns,” magazine staffers write. “And this town’s only become more beer-crazy in the ensuing 236 years.” The article goes on to name several spots to hit in “the best beer-focused bar crawl in America.”

The watering holes that received a nod include Fishtown’s Memphis Taproom for its microbrew brunch, Monk’s Cafe in Rittenhouse, heralded as an ideal afternoon alehouse, and Silk City on the edge of Northern Liberties, which, according to the magazine, is “a guaranteed late-night rager.”
