Clean Water Action’s Pennsylvania chapter yesterday endorsed three candidates in the at-large City Council May 17 election.
The 36-year-old grassroots group, which claims to have 8,000 members who are registered voters in Philadelphia, chose to throw its support behind incumbents Blondell Reynolds-Brown and Wilson Goode Jr. and challenger Sherrie Cohen.
“[They] were on the right side of all the issues,” said Eastern Pennsylvania Director Brady Russell. Deciding factors included the candidates’ stances on dredging, recycling and storm-water treatment.
The three Democrats were the only at-large candidates to score 100 percent on a Clean Water Action-issued questionnaire.
“We weren’t looking for Democrats in particular, but the Republicans didn’t convince us,” said Russell.
