Germantown is open for exploration once again with the return of the Green Space Stamp Rally. The initiative first made an appearance in 2024 with the goal of encouraging locals and visitors to explore the unique area of the city—which is full of parks, arboreta, farms, cemeteries, gardens, landscaped grounds, and cultural institutions.

Now through June 21, anyone can head to Historic Germantown’s headquarters (5501 Germantown Ave, open Thursday through Saturday) or one of the participating sites to pick up a passport book. With the books, travelers around the area can gain stamps with each stop and also scan a QR code at each site to answer questions included in the material.

2025 will hold 18 different stops, including the Victorian Garden at Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion and Mt. Airy’s Allens Lane Art Center. Each stop also helps visitors win prizes, and the first 25 adults and the first 25 children to turn in completed booklets will win said gifts. Those who collect 10 or more stamps and scavenger hunt answers are also eligible to win different items.

Prizes span custom water bottles and Historic Germantown memberships, (10 stamps), entry into a raffle to win a backpack filled with goodies for children or a grouped prize of a picnic blanket, local honey and a free art class at Allens Lane Art Center (17 stamps.) Booklets must be turned in at HG’s headquarters on June 21, and prizes are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Participants in the 2024 Stamp Rally loved discovering new green spaces and re-visiting local favorite garden spots,” says Heather Zimmerman, Program Director at Historic Germantown. “The Stamp Rally is designed for visitors to explore these landmarks at their leisure with an added bonus of winning prizes. This year, we added the scavenger hunt to help people move through the green spaces and discover something new about each of our unique sites when visiting on their own.”

The initiative also held the chance to participate in Stamp Rally Walks, where attendees could “stretch their minds and warm up their bones and muscles for an energetic walk led by a representative of Historic Germantown.”
