School Reform Commissioner Bill Green won’t challenge Gov. Tom Wolf’s decision to remove him as chairman.
“This is not a time for distractions,” Green said in a statement. “I believe I am correct on the merits, but I will not risk compromising support for the District by pursuing a court action at the same time as the Plan’s rollout.” Wolf demoted Green, who was chairman of the SRC, and replaced him with Marjorie Neff, a former principal of the Julia R. Masterman School.
Wolf’s action was largely seen as a response to the SRC’s approval of 5 new charter schools, which many observers contended that the district could not afford. Neff was the only commissioner to vote against all 39 charter schools.
