Gunfire leaves 1 dead, 7 injured in Philly

One person was killed and seven others were hospitalized following shootings Sunday night into Monday across Philadelphia.

A 42-year-old was shot twice in the head just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday on the 2500 block of N. 28th Street in North Philadelphia, authorities said.

Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he died of his injuries at around 1:15 a.m. Monday, according to police.

Two men were wounded when gunfire erupted just before 3:45 p.m. Monday on the 3100 block of N. Lee Street in Kensington.

Police said a 25-year-old man was shot seven times and transported to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. The other victim, a 38-year-old man, was struck once in the left arm.

About an hour earlier, a man, whose age was not immediately available, was shot twice in the left shoulder on the 4200 block of Parkside Avenue in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia, authorities said.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition. Officers arrested a suspect and recovered a gun, but police did not release further information Monday.

In Olney, a 42-year-old man was shot once in the left calf at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, investigators said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Someone shot a 34-year-old man in the head at around 5 a.m. Monday on the 3000 block of Kensington Avenue in Kensington, police said. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities said a 29-year-old man showed up at Temple University Hospital just after 12:15 a.m. Monday after being shot in the back and elbow on the 300 block of W. Queen Lane in Germantown.

He was listed in stable condition following the shooting.

On Sunday, at around 11 p.m., a 29-year-old man walked into Temple Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

Investigators said the incident occurred on the 4100 block of Germantown Avenue in the Nicetown neighborhood. The man is expected to physically recover.

Detectives continued to look for the location of a shooting Monday after a 20-year-old man arrived just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Episcopal Hospital in Kensington with wounds to his back and abdomen.

The victim was in critical condition, police said

Earlier, just before 6:45 p.m. Monday, a 31-year-old man was shot once in the groin on the 400 block of Lemonte Street in Roxborough, authorities said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police did not report any arrests in the immediate aftermath of any of the shootings.

In other news, investigators are looking for a man who robbed a Fishtown bank at gunpoint Monday afternoon.

Authorities said the gunman went into the Citizens Bank at Frankford Avenue and Oxford Street just at around 2:15 p.m. and ran out with $500. Police described the suspect as a white man who is around 30 years old and 6 feet tall with salt-and-pepper hair.
