Harrison Ford brings Indiana Jones to the big screen one last time

It’s time for one last adventure.

Indiana Jones is back on the big screen with, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘, starring Harrison Ford and directed by James Mangold. Now showing in theatres, the film —the fifth and final in the franchise— allows Indiana Jones to embark on one last mission in which he must fight against time to recover a dial that could change the course of history as we know it.

He is joined in this latest adventure by his goddaughter Helena Shaw, played by British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will help the archeologist in a showdown against Jürgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen), an evil Nazi who plans to change the course of history for his own benefit.

Ford, who has brought the character of Indiana Jones to life since 1981, shared that the protagonist is entering a new phase in his life: “We’re seeing him after the 15-year absence. He’s aged a little bit, we meet him on the last day of his academic retirement. He’s at a low point that we haven’t seen before, so I guess his weakness is the ravages of time.

“This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I will play the character,” Ford added. “I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a movie of the saga. I had the ambition to make this film. I have waited more than ten years and finally, there came a time when the whole team was committed to its realization. I am very happy with the result”.

Indeed, his last adventure was ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’, directed by Steven Spielberg in 2008.  Ford noted that he is delighted to give life to the most famous archaeologist of the cinema after so many years: “I always wanted to complete the story, seeing him towards the end of his career, even towards the end of his life. We had a very good script and that was the stimulus to continue,” he shared. “We are reliving an Indiana Jones movie thanks to a complex script that has allowed us to once again show the passion of a character trying to make the world a better place.”

Ford is joined by Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette Renée Wilson on ‘Dial of Destiny.’  The 80-year-old actor revealed that these four decades of giving life to this character have helped him to know his work in general:

“With Indiana Jones, I am only obliged to give my best. When it is received with the warmth and generosity that my character has had throughout this period of time, I take it personally. It means a lot to me that people like what we’ve done and I hope they appreciate it,” he said. “I really think the appeal of this role is the stories he lives and how he loves them. It is action without blood, without too many unnecessary conflicts. It is more about the pleasure that a movie can bring to the public than an archeology class. I hope this new installment returns families to theaters. I think it is necessary to revitalize the movie business.”

Ford says that this final installment doesn’t feel any different, but it feels good to say goodbye:

“I feel like we made a really satisfying movie for the audience. We’ve taken our concern and our interest in the character and tried to shape a movie that would bring Indiana Jones back into their lives with an interesting story. It’s a splendid send-off.”
