Harry Donahue, longtime KYW voice, retires

KYW Newsradio 1060’s longtime morning anchor Harry Donahue today announced his retirement effective Friday. Philadelphia listeners have heard Donahue’s voice for 35 years.

Donahue started at KYW in 1973, joining the affiliate after working as an announcer for the former WPBS-FM radio and also, as manager of media relations for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

“When I was hired at KYW, I couldn’t believe it,” said Donahue in a news release. “It was, and remains, the preeminent radio station in Philadelphia. I’ve done what I always wanted to do. To work in my hometown and having been part of this iconic radio station – it just doesn’t get any better.”

Donahue was the primary actor for several huge regional events such as Pope John Paul’s Mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, MOVE confrontation, 9/11 and championships for the Phillies and 76ers. He also covered Eagles’ Super Bowl appearances.

He is also the play-by-play voice for Temple football and basketball and will continue in that role.
