Harry Styles is living in a very important moment in his artistic career, not only because of his successful Love On Tour, but also because he has been making movies. “Dunkirk” (2017) and “My Policeman” (2022) are the films in which Styles has shown his facet as an actor, and now he is ready to invade theaters with his role as Jack Chambers in “Don’t Worry Darling.”

“Music and acting are opposites in many ways. Making music is a very personal thing and there are aspects of acting where you draw on experience, but for the most part, you’re pretending to play someone else. That’s what I find the most fun. What I like about acting is that I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing,” he said.

The British singer, considered an icon of music and fashion who is famous for breaking stereotypes, talked about his role in the film directed by Olivia Wilde, which also stars Florence Pugh (Alice Chambers), Chris Pine (Frank) and Gemma Chan (Shelley).

“Jack is a strange being, in the sense of living a different reality, where he takes on his life with great remorse. He has a constant struggle with what he seeks and wants. Alice and Jack are lucky enough to live in the idealized community of Victoria, an experimental city where the men working for the top-secret Victoria project live with their families. I like it because it’s like a trip back in time, the costumes, the music and the desert. I think the film is very contemporary, where we want to appear to have a perfect life, but it’s not.”

In addition, Styles pointed out that the film is like a look at social media:

“There are a lot of negative aspects, they’re pretty obvious to anyone who sees them. But it’s always important to remember that there are also positive things happening in the world because of it.”

Styles could not leave behind music within the movie: “Olivia gave us a list of books, articles, music and movies from 1960 to inspire us. I sent her some song recommendations, I even did a recurring piano piece that accompanies Alice’s gradual awakening to the buried truths,” the singer concluded.

3 Questions for Gemma Chan

Q: What did you like about the film?
–In the midst of a beautiful place, it is a story of a couple sick with power. Shelley is complicit in Frank’s scheme and things get a little off track at the end, but she has her own agenda within the film.

Q: Is there a lot of female power?
– The different roles of women within the story are very interesting. There are incredibly talented women involved in this film, but there were also in the crew. That’s reflected on screen.

Q: Why should people watch it?
– It’s a psychological thriller. It is entertaining with messages that will give people something to talk about when they leave the theater. I think it provokes reflection on various issues with drama, humor and mystery. Also, Harry Styles gives us several surprises. [*Laughs*]
