Harvest Fest in Gray’s Ferry Saturday

Boxer Simon “One Punch” Carr, featured in Metro last week for his comeback both in the ring and as a youth activist, will be throwing a Harvest Fest party in Gray’s Ferry tomorrow, Nov. 5, in conjunction with Consolation Baptist Church.

The block party, part of Carr’s and Bishop Alden Gaines’ ongoing efforts to stop violence in the Southwest Philadelphia community and beyond by providing positive alternatives for neighborhood kids, will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow outside Consolation Church, 2500 Wharton Street.

“Some of these kids have never had anything given to them without someone wanting something in return,” Carr said last week. “Just to show them that there are positive people out there and that people in their community do care about them can make a difference in their lives.”

Harvest Fest will feature live music from local artists, free candy and food, pony rides and games. Carr said that, in addition to providing fun activities for children in a safe place, the event will also act as a platform for local musicians and give youth the valuable opportunity to interact with positive male role models.
