Pennsylvania’s own local chip empire, Herr’s, has recently debuted their own Brotherly Love spirit with the launch of a fresh limited-edition merchandise line, ‘Fits by Philly: Threads from Philly’s Finest.’
The line of shirts, socks, totes and beyond was created by a collaboration with local artists and small business owners, South Fellini (Tony Trov and Johnny Zito) and Dirty Hands Studio (Tim Gough).
South Fellini is known around Philly for remixing iconic city-wide sites and people into fun parodies and colorful mashups, with their work expanding past just a storefront to include collabs with Kid Hazo, Group X, Mural Arts, Wawa Inc., and The Preston & Steve Show. Their brand currently offers tiny enamel pins, tee shirts in all sizes, 30-foot billboards, and hand-painted murals.
Dirty Hands Studio comes from Gough, and as he says, the name “speaks to my approach and a larger point of view I hold as a creative. The work you see here is the result of collaboration with a collection of like-minded folks who are trying to get radical.” Dirty Hands offers accessories, pins, graphic tees, greeting cards, prints and more.
As the release notes, continuing its tradition of supporting the city’s local businesses and entrepreneurs, this collaboration showcases the vibrant artistic talent that defines Philadelphia’s cultural landscape. Available for a limited time only, these exclusive pieces will be at hand to purchase on Herr’s website and at the South Fellini storefront (1507 E Passyunk Ave.,) now until supplies last.
“The launch of our new limited edition merchandise in collaboration with these talented local artists and businesses is a demonstration of our ongoing dedication to supporting Philadelphia’s local businesses and entrepreneurs,” says Bob Clark, VP of Marketing at Herr’s in a statement.
“We continue to celebrate Philly’s entrepreneurial spirit and embrace the vibrant artistic community that defines our city, much like how we celebrate Philadelphia’s diverse flavors through our Flavored by Philly initiative.”
What locals will find in this new collection is a bevy of Philly’s iconographies, like Billy Penn or the City of Brotherly Love (aka Brotherly Spud, Herr’s new take) on different articles of clothing, accessories and stickers. Each design is meant to take the history of the area and remaster it to feel unique.
“As a local artist from the Philadelphia area, I’m stoked that Herr’s is partnering with our incredible artistic community,” says Gough in a statement. “By collaborating with an iconic brand like Herr’s, they create an opportunity for a local artist to contribute to the city’s culture and celebrate the things that make Philly, Philly.”
“We’ve always had a special place in our hearts for Herr’s,” Zito added. “Growing up, their snacks were a staple in our household, bringing joy to countless childhood memories. As a small business, It’s inspiring to see Herr’s supporting local artists and establishments like ours. We’re proud of what we’ve been able to create together with the brand and grateful for their unwavering support.”
‘Fits by Philly: Threads from Philly’s Finest’ isn’t the only thing coming from Herr’s in the city. Philadelphians can also find their new line of Sandwi-chips in the area, which was brought back by popular demand. Shoppers can find Herr’s Ketchup, Mustard, and Sweet Onion Sandwi-chips at retailers where Herr’s is available today, with the Spicy Pickle flavor only available at Wawa stores.
“Our decision to bring back Sandwi-chips was driven by the incredible response from our customers,” said Ed Herr, Chairman and CEO of Herr’s. “We’ve witnessed generations embracing the tradition of adding chips to sandwiches, especially during the warmer months. With Sandwi-chips, we’re proud to offer a bold and crunchy chip that perfectly complements sandwiches.”
