The car Pope Francis cruised around in during his visit to America? It could be yours.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced Wednesday that the four-door Fiat 500Lused by Pope Francis will be auctioned off at the Philadelphia Auto Show black tie tailgate party.
The event is being held at 9 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
A second Fiat also used by Pope Francis will be on display for the duration of the auto show, which runs Jan. 30 to Feb. 7, and may be auctioned off at some point as well.
“When we learned that these vehicles would be given to us, we wanted to find some way for the public to see them and answer Pope Francis’ call to love and care for the poor,” Archbishop Charles Chaput said in a statement. “Our partnership with the Philadelphia Auto Show provides us with the wonderful opportunity to share these vehicles with the community while also connecting with a highly engaged audience for the great benefit of society’s most vulnerable and marginalized members.”
Proceeds from the auctioning off of the Fiat will go toward four Archdiocese of Philadelphia charitable missions.
The cars, which Fiat provided for the Pope, were confirmed to be authentic by the Secret Service, which matched up the VINs, the Archdiocese said in a press release.
Max Spann Real Estate & Auction Co. is conducting the auction.
