A sudden death was reported in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphiaon Wednesday, according to authorities.
A homeless man staying with a friend for the night was discovered dead, police announced Thursday.
The 45-year-old man went to a home on the 3200 block of Memphis Street, just north of Allegheny Avenue, around 2:30 a.m. to stay the night on Wednesday, police said.
“[The homeowner] allowed the [homeless man] into his home and he went back to sleep,” the police report stated.
The next morning, the homeless man was discovered dead in a bedroom, police said.
Around 10 a.m., a friend of the homeowner’s who had also stayed the night, “went to the second floor front bedroom and discovered the [victim] lying face up on the bedroom floor unresponsive.”
The man “had visible injuries; trauma and bruises to his face and upper torso from an apparent beating,” according to the police report.
After the home’s other occupants called 911, medics pronounced the homeless man dead at 11:30 a.m.
Police said that an initial investigation showed “the [victim’s] injuries were sustained at a different location.”
The investigation is going.
