Howie Roseman says Fletcher Cox could be an all-time Eagles great

Are 22 sacks over four seasons worth $63 million dollars?

According to Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles front office, absolutely.

Of course, it’s not all about sacks. The Eagles’ stardefensive tackle, Pro Bowler and now highest paid nonquarterback in history is a game changer. He impacts his team just by being on the field. And his 212 career tackles are just the tip of the iceberg.

“Fletcher Cox is a unique animal,” Roseman told the media Thursday.”Guys with that kind of power, athleticism, character, leadership are hard to find.”

Across the board, Eagles teammates were enthused to have Cox inked long term. And Cox himself — who was reportedly working on a car when he learned about the enormous deal — called his mom first.

And like his work ethic has shown thus far in his NFL career, Cox wants to earn every dollar.

“I have high expectation for myself,” he said in a news conference,”but all I can be is Fletcher Cox. I’m willing to do anything to let this organization win.”

Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has a valuable and potentially all-time great tool at his disposal, and with Philly moving back to the 4-3 (after Cox had a career-high 9.5 sacks in the 3-4 last year), the sky is the limit.

“I don’t think I’ve hit my ceiling yet,” Cox said.”For me to be the player I want to be, it needs to start on the practice field.”

Cox and the rest of the Eagles have a six-week break before returning to South Philly for training camp at the end of July

Until then, fans can contemplate the following, said confidently by RosemanThursday afternoon: “Fletcher has a chance to be one of the great players in the history of this franchise.”

For $103 million, (and $63 million guaranteed), he better hope he’s right.
