More than 120 cats — most of them kittens — were rescued by animal welfare officers in an apparent case of animal hoarding.
The cats were taken from a home in Henryville, in Monroe County, Pa., in what the Pennsylvania SPCA said was a cat sanctuary gone awry.
An anonymous tipster called the agency because of the deplorable condition of the home the cats lived in. The cats, the agency said, reproduced like bunnies, and the couple couldn’t keep up.
SPCA officers reported “filthy, flea infested conditions” at the home and untreated injuries to the cats.
The animals were taken to Pennsylvania SPCA headquarters in North Philadelphia, which the state’s only animal welfare agency large enough to handle such a large scale rescue.
The cats are available for adoption.
