Humpty’s Dumplings comes to Queen Village

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men may not have been able to put Humpty together again, but they were totally fine with it after discovering the new Humpty’s Dumplings location in Queen Village.

Open since 2013 in Glenside, the festival favorite (remember when they made Rolling Stone’s “Best Thing We Ate” at Bonnaroo in 2016?) has finally made it’s way to Philly with its new shop at 703 E. Passyunk, right across from Philly Aids Thrift.

“We have a lot of success in Glenside and all of us love this part of the city, says one of its owners, Jack Craig. “It’s really walkable and the people are really friendly. We enjoy it.”

He adds, “ When the time came to start looking at a second restaurant this is one of the first places we looked at because our landlord in Glenside had just bought the building.”

Upon entering the space, you’ll be greeted by energetic splashes of paint in primary colors on the walls (done by artist Church Prince-Lynn, who’s also an employee of Humpty’s) and abstract artwork by artist Shane Davis.

“The colors really jive. It’s a great fit,” notes Craig.

And how about those dumplings? These fried doughy balls of goodness come in a variety of flavors. The current menu features favorites like buffalo chicken, cheesesteak, honey chipotle chicken, roast pork sandwich and spinach, mozzarella and ricotta. Specialty items include the cauliflower with pumpkin seeds (vegetarian and dairy-free!) and for the sweet tooths out there, apple pie and cheesecake.

“My personal favorite is the roast pork,” Craig admits. “It’s our riff on the classic roast pork sandwich — garlic roasted pork loin, sharp provolone and there’s a little au jus in there as well.”

If you’re worried about indulging too much in fried food smack dab in the middle of bikini season, have no fear. You’ve got options to balance your dumpling consumption with something healthy. Their small dumpling combo is only $13.50 and includes five dumplings of your choice, a rotating freshly-made salad (the current one is watermelon, arugula, onion and parmesan cheese-yum!) and a drink.

Dining out with your honey? They even have a dinner for two option for $32 that includes a noodle bowl, 10 dumplings, a large salad and two drinks.

No matter what, make sure you don’t leave without trying the dumplings.

“I recommend you try a variety of them. They are our namesake,” Craig says.
