A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid on a North Philadelphia car wash led to the arrest of seven migrants Tuesday morning.
The incident comes as part of a continued effort to carry out raids in various U.S. cities in response to the demands of President Donald Trump that migrants involved in criminal activity be deported.
Following the reported raid, the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia, an immigrant rights group, held a rally Tuesday afternoon outside of ICE’s Philadelphia field office, located on the border of Center City and the city’s Chinatown neighborhoods.
“ICE came into our neighborhood and arrested seven fathers. They took away people from their families. And so, one of our members, her husband was arrested,” Peter Pedemonti, a founding member of the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia told CBS News. “So for us, coming here today is a strong, a strong message to ICE that you cannot come into our neighborhoods without a response. You are not going to be able to come in and terrorize our families without a response.”
It is unclear at this time why this car wash, located on East Hunting Park Ave. in Juniata Park, was the target of this raid.
