Iguodala’s future remains mystery

Three offseason questions for the Sixers …

1 Is this the summer Iguodala gets dealt?

At this point, Andre Iguodala is used to the trade rumors. And the fact that he thinks he’s underappreciated by the fan base certainly doesn’t help. However, Iguodala still has three years and $44.2 million left on his contract. With the CBA expiring and new salary cap rules likely being instituted, trading Iguodala will be just as hard as ever. And the news that he missed Thursday’s exit interview was overblown — he respects Doug Collins too much and the absence was excused.

2 Can they afford to keep Young?

Under the current CBA rules, Thaddeus Young is an impending restricted free agent. That means the Sixers can retain him by matching any offer he gets. Frankly, the Sixers can’t afford to lose Young. He is still just 22 years old and has a unique skill set that doesn’t grow on trees.

3 Are there any trees coming to the forest?

The trio of Spencer Hawes, Marreese Speights and Tony Battie isn’t good enough. So like every other team in the league, the Sixers need a big, talented body in the paint. That likely won’t come in the draft considering they’ll pick 16th. It won’t come in free agency as they are at the cap. The only option is a trade.
