An out-of-the-box night out awaits.

Shakespeare meets improv when The Improvised Shakespeare Company arrives at the Kimmel Cultural Campus for two performances — Sept. 19 and 20 at the Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center. Whether you’re a Shakespeare fan or a fan of comedy in general, The Improvised Shakespeare Company offers a sharp blend of comedy and Shakespearean flair in a one-of-a-kind theatrical performance.

Founded in Chicago in 2005, the acclaimed troupe builds each show entirely from scratch by taking a suggestion from the audience. They’re making it up as they go along and nothing has been planned out in advance — no rehearsals, no scripts, not even the characters. Everything you see and hear on stage is created in real time.

So if you’re wondering where the story is going next, well… so are they.

“Each performance by The Improvised Shakespeare Company is a one-of-a-kind event crafted spontaneously in the moment, never to be repeated in exactly the same way, and always full of surprises,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Programming and Presentations. “It’s a thrilling tribute to Shakespeare’s wit and a powerful reminder of the magic of live theater.”

The Improvised Shakespeare Company, a globally acclaimed improv troupe, has been performing its hit show ‘Improvised Shakespeare Chicago’ at the iO Theater since 2006, where it continues to run. The group also appears regularly at Los Angeles’ Largo and has taken the stage at major venues including the Kennedy Center, Bonnaroo, San Francisco Sketchfest, and the Just For Laughs festivals in Montreal and Chicago. Guest performers have included Jason Alexander, Bradley Whitford, Helen Hunt, and Sir Patrick Stewart, who once introduced the troupe at London’s Soho Theatre.
