CENTER CITY – An elderly man is in critical condition after being stabbed during a robbery in the underground concourse near Eighth and Market streets, police said.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. Thursday under the Mellon Independence Center, formerly the historic Lit Brothers Building. Authorities said the 64-year-old victim was allegedly stabbed six times in a restroom. He was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Police would not give his name, but news reports identified him as Ben Davis of Camden, N.J. According to reports, he was waiting for his wife, who was in a hair salon in the concourse.
Police took a suspect into custody, but no charges have been filed. It is unknown what was taken during the alleged robbery.
