Wednesday, June 18 is International Sushi Day and whether you’re an adventurous eater or stick to a few trusted favorites, plenty of area restaurants are serving up sushi specials and happy hour deals worth trying. Since the celebratory day falls on a Wednesday this year, sushi-forward Center City District SIPS participants will also be ready with a $7 cocktail or two.

Aki Nom Nom
Center City’s Aki Nom Nom checks all the boxes for a sushi day feast. They have an affordable happy hour with some standard roll options, plus they’re a Center City SIPS participant. Double Knot
The contemporary sushi restaurant by Philly’s Schulson Collective also participates in SIPS. Head there for International Sushi Day and enjoy $8 rolls from 5 to 7 p.m. like Salmon Avocado Roll, Shrimp Tempura, Cucumber Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll. Pair them with one of the SIPS $7 cocktails or a $6 sake.

Morimoto
Though their sushi making classes are sold out, guests can still enjoy a special Rainbow Roll if they’re dining at Morimoto any time in June. The roll, in honor of Pride month, features big eye tuna, salmon, madai, kanikama, cucumber, avocado, and radish. A portion of proceeds from every Rainbow Roll sold will be donated to the Attic Youth Center, Philadelphia’s LGBTQ+ youth center.

Shhh…while this new restaurant with speakeasy vibes (it’s located behind a vintage 7UP sign) isn’t exactly a secret, you might want to keep their sushi menu under wraps so you can enjoy it all to yourself. The Japanese fusion menu by acclaimed Chef Nobu Hamazaki features signature rolls like the Cover Story Roll with black cod, crab, avocado, cucumber, and parmesan cheese, wrapped in soy paper, and the Newsroom Roll with wagyu, avocado, asparagus, cucumber, and finished with truffle salt.
