Iron Hill Brewery debuts holiday happenings

Iron Hill Brewery is celebrating the holiday season in more than one way, and luckily, Philadelphians can indulge throughout the whole month of December. 

The Brewery is serving up a few seasonal beers for the month, including the fan favorite Spruce Moose. This sipper is described as a wintertime classic brewed with spruce needles to resemble “a frosty aromatic adventure through a winter forest.” Other holiday flavors span Reindeer’s Revenge, a hoppy twist on a Belgian Tripel offering bold pine and grapefruit notes with a hint of bitterness, and lastly, the Winter Warmer is back at Iron Hill, featuring its classic winter spice blend. And to get a taste of all 3, Philadelphians can build a flight of holiday beers. 

Later this month, on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., Philadelphians can get the added treat of pairing cookies with their beer when Iron Hill hosts an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party with a cookies and beer pairing. 

Guests can wear their ugliest Christmas sweater for a chance to win gift card prizes that can be used for food, beer, or merch from the Hop Shop, a release states. And the pairings? Available for $13, they include a chocolate chip cookie with a Pig Iron Porter, a gingerbread cookie with a Winter Warmer, an oatmeal cookie with a Vienna Red Lager and a sugar cookie with the Reindeer’s Revenge. King of the Hill loyalty members will receive an exclusive, extra pairing on top of the other four choices as well.

For those who are looking for some holiday food options, the Center City spot is also serving up a menu of some comfort food and seasonal favorites from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2. Appetizers span lobster arancini with herb crème fraiche, micro greens, and lemon oil, (which the venue says is perfectly paired with Iron Hill’s signature Homestead Ale), and for entrees, the pan-roasted halibut stands out with sweet potato puree, rainbow beet relish, baby arugula, and champagne beurre blanc (also a “perfect pair” with the hoppy notes of the Philly Phavorite IPA.)

Additional food options span the prime rib, served with a twice-baked potato, buttery broccoli, au jus, and horseradish sauce, (complemented by the robust Pig Iron Porter) and to end things on a sweet note, there’s the dark chocolate cheesecake (which can be paired with the Winter Warmer.)

Iron Hill also serves brunch every Saturday and Sunday, with some brewery-inspired favorites on the menu like the fried chicken and waffles made with Vienna Red Lager-brined chicken and the Sunrise Sandwich made with brown sugar and Pig Iron Porter glazed ham. Brunch guests can also sip on the Oh, Bloody Hill Bloody Mary topped with a cheesesteak egg roll, grilled shrimp, a Nashville chicken slider, and bacon.
