Is Eagles’ Nelson Agholor in over his head?

The list of football since committed by Nelson Agholor this season is starting to become a laundry list.

And it’s costing the Eagles in the standings.

His error of judgment on the field just prior to a potentially game-changing Zach Ertz screen pass Sunday afternoon— one that would have gone for a touchdown if it was not called back — is the latest in a string of embarrassing mistakes the former No. 1 overall draft pick has fallenflat on.

In the play, Agholor lined up incorrectly, just feet away from a screaming Doug Pederson who saw the misalignment and was trying to get his attention. The penalty reversed a huge play and stifled Philly’s momentum in an eventual 26-15 loss to the Seahawks Sunday.

Agholor also dropped a pass that hit him in the hands on a key third down. Had he secured the pass, he would have gained at worst 25 yards and at best had a path to the end zone.

In a seemingly one-sided loss, Agholorcould have made the difference.

“I got to get out of my own head. I’m pressing so much,” Agholor told the Philadelphia media contingent with him in Seattle after the loss.”I’m thinking too much and so worried.”

There may be no way out. Agholor would cost the Eagles $2.3 million were they to cut him, and with a player so young and (at one time) filled with so much potential, he’s likely stuck here for at least one more season.

A gofundme page emerged during the loss Sunday attempting to raise the $2.3 million neded to send Agholor on his way, but in stark honesty, teammates Jordan Matthews andDorial Green-Beckham have had drop issues too. The Eagles receiving corps has arguably cost Carson Wentzhis rookie of the year chance and the Eagles their chance at a playoff spot.

At 5-5, there is some solace in knowing the team is actually overachieving, and if fixing one position group would make a football team a Super Bowl contender, things can’treally be that bad.

But in the pressure cooker that is the Philadelphia sports market, a career can be made or destroyed by media and fan pressure.
