Jack Wagner has bowed out of the Pennsylvania governor’s race a little more than a month after he threw his hat in the ring.

Citing a lack of support from his traditional base, the announcement by the 66-year-old former state auditor general leaves the Democratic Party without a candidate from the western side of the state, KYW Newsradio reports.

In addition to his two terms as auditor general, Wagner previously served as Pittsburgh city councilman and state senator.

Republican Gov. Tom Corbett will be seeking a second term in the November election. There are four remaining candidates for the May 20 Democratic primary: businessman Tom Wolf, state Treasurer Rob McCord, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz and Katie McGinty, a cabinet member under former Gov. Ed Rendell.
