Jakub Voracek hurt overseas, Flyers re-assign players

Players might be locked out, but that doesn’t mean the NHL players aren’t playing hockey.

Several guys, including seven Flyers, have gone overseas to keep fresh. On Saturday, forward Jakub Voracek sustained a sprained knee, according to his KHL club Lev Praha in Prague. He is expected to miss at least four weeks.

Voracek recently inked a four-year, $17 million deal with the Orange and Black after scoring a career-high 18 goals last season. He became the fourth NHL player to hurt himself while playing overseas.

Talks between NHL owners and players are expected to resume tomorrow and Thursday in New York.

Meanwhile, Wayne Simmonds was involved in a brutal brawl while playing a game in Germany. Simmonds left Ralf Rinke bruised and bloodied in what has become a viral classic on YouTube. Claude Giroux and Danny Briere were headed to Germany yesterday, where they’ll suit up as teammates for Eisbaren Berlin.

Making moves

The Flyers announced they had re-assigned six players from Adirondack (AHL) to Trenton (ECHL).

RW Jason Akeson, D Tyler Hostetter, G Niko Hovinen,

D Blake Kessel, LW Marcel Noebels, C Luke Pither. Adirondack opens the 2012-13 season Saturday night in Glen Falls, N.Y. Trenton begins Friday night at home.
