Hurts suffers shoulder sprain injury, doubtful for Cowboys Christmas Eve clash

The Philadelphia Eagles got good news on the injury front Monday even though it doesn’t look it. According to Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo, quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a shoulder sprain in the Eagles’ Week 15 win over Chicago on Sunday.

While the injury was suffered during a hard hit on Sunday, it is not expected to be long-term. It does mean that Hurts will be doubtful for Saturday’s contest against the Dallas Cowboys.

Even though it’s not a season-altering injury, Hurts’ injury does shed light on the Eagles’ offensive game plan. Hurts has tallied over 150 carries on the year with several carries getting hit hard during the play.

With the number of touches and hits he’s suffered, it’s clear that the Eagles need to limit his chances of moving the ball effectively.

Jalen Hurts has shown both mental and physical toughness that has pushed this team forward. In the end, Hurts suffered his injury in the third quarter but still made the key clutch throws he needed to make for the Eagles to win 25-20 on Sunday. The win also was compounded with a Dallas loss which means Philadelphia is just a win away from securing not just the NFC East, but the #1 seed as well.

In 14 games this season, Hurts is 13-1 with 22 touchdown passes and over 3,000 yards through the air. In total, the Eagles franchise quarterback has totaled over 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns and has been a front-runner for the Most Valuable Player Award.

Regardless of seeding or the MVP trophy, the Eagles are expected to start Gardner Minshew on Saturday against their arch-rivals as Jalen Hurts recovers from his shoulder injury.
