James Bradberry would complete best offseason since 2017

Howie Roseman has been enjoying one of the best offseasons the Eagles have had in years. Manageable free agent signings, a loaded draft class, and enough ammo for future drafts have made the outlook of the Philadelphia Eagles future a positive one. However fans, analysts and even the front office knows they are not done with improving the roster before the season begins in September. And there’s a player on the open market that could solve the last need the Eagles have – James Bradberry.

Bradberry is only 28 years old and coming off two of his best years in the game. A pro-bowl appearance in 2020, and an above average rating on PFF last season has the former Giant as the next top free agent player available.

And with a glaring need at the #2 corner position, it’s almost a match made in heaven that the Eagles have a chance at a player like Bradberry.

Speaking to reporters earlier this year, Roseman talked about being aggressive and doing things outside of the norm

“if we’re going to be the same as everyone else, we’re probably going to finish in the middle of the pack. Sometimes you have to take risks and you have to stand out there and do something different than everyone else. So that doesn’t mean that there aren’t right decisions to make at that position. But at the same time, if you’re doing the same thing that everyone else is doing, you’re probably a step late.”

There is no better time to continue that trend than getting James Bradberry.

A move like this would also alter the outlook of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Heading into 2022, the Eagles should absolutely been seen as a good football team. The offense has all the tools to be very good next year. The defense (especially the front seven) should be lightyears better than last year. But the team is still a secondary player away from being great and among the top teams of a very weak NFC.

A move for Bradberry would shift the Eagles to a very good team, to a Super Bowl contender in 2022. And if Howie Roseman is to follow in his words about going against what other teams are doing, it’s clear he knows that two top corners would change the way an offense attacks them.

In hindsight, it’s also not the end of the world if Bradberry ends up going to the AFC either. The only thing that matters is getting out of the NFC East and into a playoff spot. Bradberry being released sets the Giants secondary in a very bad shape. As good a draft as THEY had, the team isn’t ready to defend the passing attacks of the NFC East. As long as the division gets worse, the Eagles will be in a good spot.

But adding Bradberry would be a move that would shake-up the balance of power in the NFC as a whole, and sets the Eagles up to join the ranks of the Packers, Bucs and Rams.
