As comic book adaptations continue to reign on the big screen, the next film that will seek to win over audiences is called “Morbius.”
Starring Jared Leto, it will bring one of Spider-Man’s most bloodthirsty villains to the movie theaters for the first time.
“Morbius” was originally set to be released in June 2020, but COVID-19 caused the adaptation to be delayed seven times. Despite that, Jared Leto is optimistic about the film and believes it will please fans. In an interview with Metro, the actor talked about the potential future of the character and one of the biggest unknowns of the film—the universe where it takes place.
How did you prepare to play Morbius?
The preparation was fascinating because we started with the essential things. The character has been in the comics for decades and there’s a lot to explore. I took the time to get to know and understand him. I had to develop three different characters, which was challenging but I really enjoyed it.
What’s the difference between Michael Morbius the doctor and Morbius the monster?
Michael Doctor is all about intelligence and sensitivity, Morbius, on the other hand, is scattered and powerful. That’s what’s interesting about the character: to see that dichotomy between the two personalities.
In the trailer, we’ve seen references to different Marvel universes, the MCU, Amazing Spider-Man and Sam Raimi’s. In which universe does the film take place?
Well, you never know. These days there are a lot of surprises. I’m excited to be a part of any of them and it’s an absolute honor.
What’s next for Morbius? A sequel, a showdown with Venom or Spider-Man, or a Sinister Six movie?
That sounds interesting to me. I would love to take on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, I think that would be phenomenal. And, of course, Sinister Six… Who wouldn’t want to see that? That would be spectacular.
Is there any chance of a showdown between Morbius and the MCU’s next Blade?
That would be great. Imagine what a battle that would be: Blade vs Morbius! That would be something worth witnessing.
Are you open to playing Morbius in animated movies or video games?
Absolutely, it’s a character that I had the opportunity to bring to the big screen for the first time and it would be a lot of fun to continue doing that.
Who would win in a fight between Morbius and Spider-Man?
Of course Morbius, my friend.
Will we see that fight in the new movie?
No, but I would love to see that. I think that would be something to behold. I feel bad for the city though, because I’m sure it would be in ruins by the time we were done. We’d have to fight on the outskirts.
Who’s your favorite Spider-Man from the movies?
I really love Tom Holland and what he’s doing. I think he’s perfect.
And who would win in a Venom vs. Morbius fight?
That would be a very interesting thing to watch and, of course, a lot of fun, especially if Venom tries to mess with or possess Morbius. Two powerful creatures going head to head… we’ll have to wait to see that.
