Jarrad Page: Eagles doing safety dance once again

Think they might be humming that tune at the NovaCare Complex?

Okay, probably not.

But, with the uncertainty surrounding Nate Allen and his ailing knee, there’s a strong possibility the Eagles will keep a small army of safeties when the roster is trimmed down.

That’s kind of what Jarrad Page is banking on. The five-year veteran has started 40 games in his NFL career, and had already recorded eight total tackles and one interception entering Thursday night’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. Page got the start in place of Allen, who is still not 100 percent after undergoing offseason knee surgery.

“I’m just trying to work hard,” Page told reporters earlier this week. “It’s tough when you get to a team and you’re behind the eight ball a little bit, trying to learn the defense. But I think my years in the league helped me a lot.”

With the Eagles investing a second-round draft pick in former Temple star Jaiquawn Jarrett, Allen still recovering and Kurt Coleman slated to start at free safety, the team has a lot of bodies in the secondary.

Add special-teams dynamo Colt Anderson into the mix and the Eagles will have some very tough decisions to make on Aug. 30, when the rosters get cut from 90 to 80 players.

For now, the players are taking it in stride.

Page is just trying to gel with his new team.

“I’ve been happy with the way I’ve picked up things, and I feel like we’re getting a lot tighter as a group,” he said.

Meanwhile, Allen — the projected starter at strong safety — is going full tilt, whenever he gets a shot.

“We’ll take it for what it is, and [I’ll] take advantage of the chances I get.”
