Calling all Jazzophiles, this month features the return of Jazz and Joe, a concert series by Philadelphia’s most distinctive performing arts nonprofit, The Jazz Sanctuary.

Featuring live music, coffee, soft drinks, dessert treats, and what’s been called a “BYOB atmosphere,” this year’s Jazz and Joe concert series brings the sounds of jazz to audiences during five free concerts across the Greater Philadelphia area. All events are free and open to the public.

The first show takes place on Sunday, June 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Messiah (1001 Dekalb Pike, Lower Gwynedd, PA 19002).  With live performers from a variety of Jazz Sanctuary musicians, including James Dell’Orefice (piano), Eddie Etkins (saxophone), Grant MacAvoy (drums), Alan Segal (bass), and Tony Micilli (vibes).

Next, on Thursday, June 12, Trinity Episcopal Church (Routes 202 and 413, Buckingham, PA 18912) will host the second Jazz and Joe event at 7:30 p.m. with coffee, treats, and a night of live music from The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet: James Dell’Orefice (piano), Eddie Etkins (saxophone), Leon Jordan Sr. (drums), Alan Segal (bass), and Randy Sutin (vibes/percussion).

Pennepack Baptist Church (8732 Krewstown Rd.) hosts night three of Jazz and Joe. Presented with the support of the Greater Bustleton Civic League and featuring The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet, this event begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18.

Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Episcopal Church (8 Christian St.) hosts the fourth iteration of Jazz and Joe. On Thursday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m., guests can enjoy another soulful evening with The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet.

Finally, on Sunday, June 29, at 4:30 p.m., Robinson Park will host the fifth Jazz and Joe concert, a benefit for The Friends of Robinson Park. The park is adjacent to All Hallows Church (262 Bent Rd, Wyncote, PA 19095) and the concert will feature another stellar performance by The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet.

Jazz and Joe’s benefit concert for The Friends of Robinson Park is presented with the support of Cheltenham Township and The Friends of Robinson Park. Like the other Jazz and Joe performances, this two-hour performance is free and open to the public.

“Nothing delights us more than performing for a warm and welcoming audience—it truly elevates the entire experience for our musicians,” said Alan Segal, Founder and Executive Director of The Jazz Sanctuary. “We’re grateful for the support of every community we visit, and we hope you’ll continue to join us whenever you can.”
