SEPTA’s new general manager is a 27-year veteran of the agency who oversaw its engineering and its maintenance departments.
Jeffrey Knueppel, who started as an entry-level structural engineer with the transit agency, will now lead all of the agency’s 9,300 employees and $1.36 billion budget.
He succeeds Joe Casey, who took the helm of the agency as it struggled with severe funding problems and led it into an era that has seen renewed interest in public transit.
Knueppel is expected to lay out his plans for the agency in the coming days.
