Jeremy Horst and Phillippe Aumont are struggling in the backend of the Phillies’ bullpen. Meanwhile, one minor leaguer — Jesse Biddle — is on a tear for the Reading Fightin’ Phils.
Biddle was recently named Eastern League pitcher of the week after two double-digit, strikeout performances. The Phils have always been very methodical about calling up prospects too soon, but fans are taking notice.
Last Monday, Biddle retired the first 19 batters he faced in a 3-2 win. He finished with 16 strikeouts, while allowing two walks and a hit in seven innings. On Sunday, he followed that up with six innings of one-hit ball, including 10 strikeouts. He got a no-decision in that one.
