It wouldn’t be Christmas in Philadelphia without the return of iHeartRadio’s Q102 Jingle Ball.
One of the holiday’s most festive public events hits the stage on Monday, Dec. 16, at Wells Fargo Center. This year’s lineup includes Katy Perry, Tate McRae, Teddy Swims, Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo, Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey and Dasha.
“Q102’s Jingle Ball has become a holiday tradition for Q102 listeners in its now 24-year run,” said Buster, the afternoon host on iHeartRadio Philadelphia’s Q102 station. “Families, friends and our longtime listeners flock from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware to witness the daily Q102 playlist come to life. The yearly line up always has something for everybody, and is sure to have this year’s biggest pop stars on the same stage. We’re anticipating an electric evening in South Philly.”
Jingle Ball has been celebrating the holiday season with pop hits since its inaugural concert in 1996 at Madison Square Garden. In 2000, Philadelphia adopted the annual event.
“When I started out in the biz, I never realized the power of the Jingle Balls,” said rapper Flo Rida, who has forever a part of the yearly Jingle Ball. “Once you’re in the middle of one of them, it’s awesome. I was so happy the fans loved what I was doing that I’d give them the shirt off my back. Jingle Ball is ALL for the fans.”
For anyone following the 2024 charts, it’s clear that Teddy Swims and Shaboozey are the standout stars bringing plenty of sparkle to the Jingle Ball stage.
Georgia-born singer, songwriter and producer Swims has been a sensation since 2019 and his series of cover tunes. But the R&B, soul, country and pop genre musician released his ‘Tough Love’ EP in 2022 that leapt to the top of the Billboard charts, dropped his Top 10 single ‘Lose Control‘, in 2023, and by 2024, made his funky, full-album studio debut with release of ‘I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy (Part 1)’.
Shaboozey’s story is even bigger, and carries on throughout this holiday season. The Virginia-born rapper, singer and songwriter has forever been blending country, hip hop and pop in his album’s mix since 2018’s ‘Lady Wrangler’ album. In January of this year, however, a member of Beyoncé’s production team heard a handful of Shaboozey’s as yet unreleased demos, and asked him to participate in her ‘Cowboy Carter’ sessions. Not long after Queen Bey’s country-hip hop album’s March release, Shaboozey put out ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)‘ in April – a hit that has remained atop the Billboard Hot 100, since; making it the longest running Hot 100 No. 1 song in history.
All Jingle Balls are great, but it’s rare to have an opportunity to witness something so historic. Ho ho ho, Philly.
