JJ Arcega-Whiteside among Eagles placed on COVID-19 list

The Philadelphia Eagles placed wide receivers JJ Arcega-Whiteside, John Hightower, and Deontay Burnett on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday.

Arcega-Whiteside was the player who tested positive for the virus with Burnett and Hightower identified as close contacts.

He is the second Eagles player this season to test positive for the virus, joining safety Marcus Epps, who still has not been activated back onto the 53-man roster since being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list two weeks ago.

“The Philadelphia Eagles received confirmation this morning that a player tested positive for COVID-19,” the team released in a statement. “The individual and close contacts who were identified through contact tracing are in self-isolation. We are following NFL-NFLPA intensive protocols and remain in communication with the league on this matter.”

If Arcega-Whiteside is not showing any symptoms, he will be able to return to the team 10 days after the positive test or within five days if he tests negative twice. Hightower and Burnett must pass testing protocols before returning to practice.

The trio of receivers have not been utilized often in Carson Wentz’s offense, combining for just 14 receptions for 230 yards. Arcega-Whiteside, the Eagles’ second-round pick just a year ago, had just two catches in seven games and was benched for Philadelphia’s Week 10 loss to the New York Giants.
